Best Practice Wellbeing Framework

YCDI! Social-Emotional Learning framework

This framework developed by Michael Bernard and his colleagues addresses the aspects of the psychological functioning of young people that lead to poor learning, behaviour, social and emotional outcomes. Negative Attitudes and under-developed Character (values and strengths) help create five Social-Emotional Blockers. Additionally, the framework represents the Positive Attitudes and Character (values, strengths) that support five essential Social-Emotional Skills all contributing to positive outcomes.

Aligned with the ACARA Personal and Social Capability learning continuum

Each social-emotional learning activity addresses an aspect of the ACARA national curriculum’s Personal and Social Capabilities.

32 weekly activities

Organised to be delivered across four terms and cover the following topics:

Achievement: Work Confidence (growth mindset), Persistence, Organisation and Teamwork
Relationships: Values, Character Strengths and Getting Along Skills
Wellbeing. Resilience and Happiness (self-awareness, self-management, ABCs of emotions, cognitive restructuring, mindfulness) and
Social-Emotional Blockers: Anger, Not Paying Attention, Procrastination, Worry and Feeling Down (awareness and self-management).

Designed to capture students’ attention and motivation, helping them stay focused throughout the lesson.

Flexibility of activity delivery
