A Professional Learning Certified Program for Educators

General Information

Coaching is one of the most powerful levers for change in a school community — for teachers, for leaders, and ultimately for students. The Coaching and Mentoring Certification Program (2nd Edition) is a practical, skills-based eLearning course that equips educators to have better coaching conversations, build stronger professional relationships, and lead a coaching culture across their school.

Participants will explore their current coaching and mentoring approach, develop positive partnerships with the colleagues they support, and build the skills to hold coaching conversations that create real change — with individual teachers, leadership teams, and students alike.

🎯 Coach with confidence — Learn evidence-based models and question techniques that turn everyday conversations into moments of genuine growth.

🤝 Build stronger partnerships — Develop the relational skills to support colleagues and students through coaching rather than directing.

🌱 Lead lasting culture change — Apply coaching as a whole-school strategy that builds capability, wellbeing, and self-direction at every level.

Course Information

Format: An introductory module plus 8 x 45-minute modules, delivered online for flexible, self-paced learning.

Created by and featuring:

Johanna Crichton — CEO and Managing Director of You Can Do It! Education, based in Brisbane, Australia. Johanna is an accomplished educator, facilitator, and ICF-accredited (ACC) coach, passionate about helping people uncover their strengths, build resilience, and thrive in learning and life. She holds a Master's in Linguistics, ICF Accreditation in Coaching, and an Advanced Certificate in Positive Education, and is currently completing an action research PhD on meditation and mindfulness practices in schools. With extensive experience working alongside schools, educators, and communities, Johanna delivers practical, evidence-based strategies that promote confidence, connection, and resilience. Her facilitation style is uplifting and dynamic, and her own journey — including her yoga, meditation and nature practice — deeply informs her approach to leadership and coaching.

What You'll Learn — Eight Modules:

  1. Foundations of Coaching in Schools — Define coaching and distinguish it from mentoring, managing, counselling and supervising, and understand the evidence-based benefits for educators, schools and students.
  2. Roles, Models and Methods — Clarify coaching role boundaries and confidentiality, and apply the GROW model to structure a coaching conversation end-to-end.
  3. Coaching Practice and Ethics — Use a range of coaching question types to deepen conversations, and commit to the YCDI Code of Ethics for school-based coaches.
  4. Benefits of Coaching for Students as a Lifelong Skill — Apply a simplified GROW-based framework to student coaching conversations, and embed coaching language into everyday classroom and pastoral interactions.
  5. Leadership Coaching — Apply a coaching stance in formal and informal leadership conversations, and navigate the dual-role challenge of coaching someone you also manage or evaluate.
  6. Using Data to Inform Coaching and Mentoring — Use data as a shared artefact to open, deepen and focus coaching conversations — without turning them into performance reviews.
  7. Building Coaching into Meetings and Whole-School Culture — Apply coaching-informed facilitation to meetings and planning sessions, and design a coaching circle within a school team.
  8. Sustaining Your Practice — Coaching for the Long Term — Articulate your personal coaching philosophy, design a sustainable ongoing practice plan, and complete your Certification Portfolio.
